MorningStar of Littleton named “Alzheimer’s Association Leader in Dementia Care”
To help families research memory care communities, the Alzheimer’s Association established a program called “Recognized Leaders in Dementia Care.” To be so designated, a senior living community is required to enroll 75% of its staff in an eight-hour training that encompasses brain pathology, communication techniques, and methods of lessening agitation with non-pharmaceuticals. Colorado is the only Alzheimer’s Association chapter in the country offering this special program. MorningStar of Littleton is proud to have earned this special recognition of our expertise in serving the memory-impaired, with 84% of our staff thus trained. Learn More

Glimpses of the Heart
From a young age, I prayed for the gifts of gentle and strong hands to care for
others, an open heart to love deeply, the words to comfort, and a spirit to advocate for those in need. Senior care is the ideal place to use such gifts. Seniors teach me that friendships are ageless; we connect and care for each other naturally and effortlessly as two humans with the same needs for companionship, kindness and love. Through their life stories, they teach me to be resilient, to balance life delicately; time is nothing to waste.
Thanks to my from my Maryland grandmother and West Virginia grandfather,
I grew up listening to stories of bygone days: horse and buggy travel along the East Coast; the high excitement over Baltimore City’s new trolley. My extended family (we’re talking Great-Great Aunts and Uncles, one of whom had actual wooden teeth) spoke often of the resourcefulness born of scarcity (newspapers tucked into shoes for insulation). I cherish these memories and the history they preserve. Happily for me, the storytelling continues here at MorningStar, where I’ve become an expert in nudging residents to share “just one more.”
Dir, Community Relations
My grandma was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s when I was in middle school.
I didn’t fully understand why my once-active grandma was now calling me by different names if she recognized me at all. My passion for senior care grew as I volunteered weekly in her Memory Care community, finding hew ways to enjoy Grandma, and coming to love her friends there. I went on to college to pursue a degree that would allow me to work every day with others on the same journey as Grandma Wright.
